The language is very beautiful to listen to. There are many differences in the way English and Thai are spoken. Thai is a tonal language. That means a word that is spelled the same can have different meanings because of the tone or sound. The Thai language has five tones. Another difference is that Thai’s speak “house my” where English speaks “my house.” One more difference for Thai language students to note is that Thai does not have “a” or “the” and is spoken quite simply. Instead of “lets go to the store” Thai’s would simply speak “go store.” Thai language students are better off learning simple words first like who, what, where, when and why. You can do a lot of communicating with those one-word questions. Also if you learn simple sentence words like to, go, from, this, and come first, you will understand what the phrases mean because you will know the individual words. Another difference in Thai is that when the subject is understood it is not spoken.

白蛇传说 bái shé chuánshuō (Legend of White Snake) is a Chinese folk legend that is hundreds of years old. You may have already seen it short cartoon or a black and white film, in Chinese or other languages. Now you can see it as an amazing movie casted by 李连杰 Lǐ Liánjié (Jet Li) and 黄圣依 huáng shèng yī.

This video has both Chinese and English captions. The content of the conversations are easy to understand as it’s quite a simple story so you may find this good for practicing your mandarin listening. The name of the movie is translated as “It’s Love”, it’s a love story, but this certainly doesn’t have your usual “lived happily ever after” ending.

So, enjoy the Legend of White Snake…

Where do I begin? The question is which language learning method is the best? To answer this you must evaluate each program on how they teach. What is the method used to teach? What is the cost of course but more important how effective is the language software?

Words like who, what, where, when and why are all very helpful one word questions. I need a language method that can help me learn the basics like to, go, from, if. Then the phrases will make sense because I will know the individual words.

Language learning often times has games that help you remember. I find that is a good idea. Games make repetition fun. Repetition is how words are remembered.

A game with word recall practice is what I found at the World Word Exchange. Learn Mandarin Chinese, Spanish or Thai. The software is online. I got 2 free trial lessons just for signing up.

Grammar Words
It is difficult to learn proper grammar for most languages. It is not that important. If you speak “my house” or “house my” because you will be understood.
To learn how to use grammar you need simple grammar explanations along with … Continue reading →

It is difficult to learn proper grammar for most languages. It is not that important. If you speak “my house” or “house my” because you will be understood.

To learn how to use grammar you need simple grammar explanations along with grammar used in sentences for examples. Of all the grammar words: is, are, be, was, and were are some of the more difficult to use properly. It can take many years of practice. Again if you use the wrong words you will still be understood.

The importance of grammar when you are communicating with someone of a different language will be discarded. When you understand that dropping many words so you just use the important words will be of great help.

If you are talking to a non-English speaking person or someone who has limited English it is very helpful to speak very simple. Instead of saying “I want to go to the store” a simple “go store” is easier to understand for a person of limited English.

Every language uses grammar in different ways. If you are learning a new language it is very helpful if you have a friend who speaks the language you are learning. Practice by hearing examples of how the foreign language is used.

It is more important when learning a new language to learn the basic words first, rather than how they are used. Grammar makes language sound better but it is not that important for communicating. Words are the true way of communication.

Learn Mandarin Chinese, Spanish or Thai from a native speaker at the World Word Exchange. Sign up and get 2 free trial lessons. Low cost language learning online.

First time you attempt to learn a foreign language is an exciting challenge. In the old days you had to go to a language school. Or if you had big money you could hire a private teacher. Now those days are over. Language learning online is here to stay.

There are many ways to start. There are many sites that teach language learning and just as many languages to learn.

If you search you will find many methods of teaching. Some want to teach you with pictures but, can you make a picture of who? What does what look like?? Where can I find a picture of when and how do I hold it? Who, what, where, when, and how, are some of the very helpful words I want to learn first. They are meaningful one word questions. All the sentence words like to, go, come, for, is, from, would be very handy to know. Then, when you get to phrases you will know what all the words are. Also if I could see them phonetically spelled in English it would help to lock them into my memory.

To learn Mandarin Chinese you first have to understand that Chinese is a tonal language. There are 5 tones. This means that the same word can be spoken but have a different meaning according to the tone. The five tones are: The pitch going up like asking a question. The tone goes down then up. The pitch goes down. The tone is light and soft-spoken with no emphasis. And normal tone no change. The Chinese call this tone system the “Hanyupinyin” and use the numbers 1 to 4 to mark the tones. No mark means no change or normal tone.
